“Darkhorse provided a friendly, flexible and professional service. Their culture is to respect and understand their client’s requirements, responding with innovative but sympathetic design ideas. They are a pleasure to work with, and a positive force to bring into any project.”

The past few years have seen a surge in the number of WWI-related exhibitions, as Britain marks the centenary of the start of the Great War. English Heritage is no different, yet Wrest Park at War represented a different take on the anniversary. Rather than focusing on warfare, this exhibition looked at how Wrest Park supported community spirit and the generosity of individuals back home to support the war effort.
We were commissioned to create the identity, exhibition, video and marketing campaign for Wrest Park at War. It was important that the exhibition represented the whole history of Wrest Park and brought the story alive through several themes to give the exhibition a focus and structure. A full and varied events programme is running alongside the exhibition comprising talks and walks.
The aim of the exhibition’s design, look and feel, was to showcase the authentic designs of the day and influence for the styling was taken from archive material. Our typeface, used throughout the identity and exhibition design, was based on type specimens and posters from the period, and underpins our belief that good design only comes from research – and a real understanding of our client, their products and their markets.
